IAN BALDWIN

Principal and Cofounder

Ian has over 14 years' experience as an architect and educator. A former magazine writer and editor, Ian understands architecture as communication. He takes a lead role in crafting clear, consistent design objectives at a project’s outset, and brings an editorial eye to the details of the design process.

A native of the Washington, DC, area, Ian has a B.A. from New York University and an M.Arch. from the University of Pennsylvania. He moved to Rhode Island in 2009, after working at firms in Philadelphia and New York, and for Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

Ian is a registered architect in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, a member of the Boston Society of Architects, and a former board member of ArchitectureBoston. He is also a former trustee of the Providence Public Library, served on the Providence Zoning Board, and writes frequently on design and urbanism.

.

Ian has taught at several schools including RISD, Brown, Northeastern, and NYU. His research includes publications and presentations on Paul Rudolph, Harry Weese, suburban streets, spatial taxonomies and urban mobility.

Ian lives with his family in Providence in a former furniture factory, and feels fortunate to survive his weekly over-35 soccer game.
